The 1-Day Universal Studios Beijing Itinerary: How to Beat the Crowds

photo of Universal Studios Beijing

Universal Studios Beijing is a park worth planning and designing. Each of its seven themed areas has its own unique character—from the adrenaline-pumping roller coasters of Transformers Base to the warm indoor world of Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness. The Beijing version of Hogwarts Castle is the largest of all Universal Studios parks. It's breathtaking from afar, and the texture of the carvings and stone walls up close is even more impressive.

If you had to pick three must-see attractions: Decepticon Roller Coaster, Jurassic World Adventure, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (the queues alone are an experience). If you can get through the first three within an hour of opening, you'll have plenty of time for the rest of the day.

For shows, don't miss: WaterWorld Extreme Stunt Show, Untamed, Universal Parade, and the Hogwarts Castle Nighttime Light Show.

WaterWorld Extreme Stunt Show

WaterWorld Extreme Stunt Show: High-speed jet ski chases, giant fireball explosions, aerial stunts, and real water jet explosions—the scale is so large you'll forget you're watching a show in a theme park. The fireball is so close you can feel the heat on your face, and the jet skis rush past just meters from the audience. The entire show is tightly choreographed with no dull moments.

There are 2-3 shows daily, but the times are not fixed. Waterpark attractions aren't always open, so be sure to check the showtimes on the app beforehand. If there's only one show that day, seats fill up quickly, so note the time as soon as the park opens and arrive early to secure your spot.

Arrive 20-25 minutes before the show starts. The front rows are marked "water splash zone"—you'll definitely get wet sitting there. The best view is from the center of the middle row; you'll feel the heat of the fireball without getting soaked. If you don't want to get wet, definitely don't sit in the front!

12:00-1:00 PM is a nightmare for food—every restaurant has a queue. Eating early, around 11:00 AM, or after 2:00 PM will significantly reduce the queues. If you want to eat at Three Broomsticks or Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop, avoiding peak hours is the only solution.

photo of Transformers Base

Upon the park's opening in the early morning, be sure to head straight to "Transformers Base" for the thrilling "Decepticons Roller Coaster," followed by a visit to the nearby "Jurassic World Adventure." If the queue for "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" isn't too long at this time, it's highly recommended to book it immediately.

At midday, when the sun is at its strongest, head to the indoor "Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness" to escape the heat and enjoy a beef noodle lunch at "Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop," the park's best value restaurant.

Afternoon is the perfect time to catch some exciting shows. Schedule to see "Waterworld Stunt Show" and "Untamed," two classic performances.

In the evening, you can see the "Universal Parade" along Hollywood Boulevard, Transformers Base, Jurassic World, and Minion Park. Find a good spot to soak up the lively party atmosphere. As night falls, the perfect grand finale is a visit to the illuminated "Wizarding World of Harry Potter."

At this time, the queues for "Forbidden Journey" are usually shorter. After experiencing it, enjoy the breathtaking "Hogwarts Castle Nighttime Light Show," and finally, savor roast chicken at the "Three Broomsticks" themed restaurant while admiring the castle's nighttime view—a perfect way to end a fulfilling day.

U-Pass

On weekdays, following this itinerary, without a U-Pass, you can cover all three must-do attractions and four must-see sights in one day—including a nice lunch at Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop!

If you're visiting on a weekend or during peak season, I recommend buying a U-Pass package. For popular attractions, choose Forbidden Journey and Jurassic World Adventure. The Decepticon Roller Coaster (not included in the U-Pass) is a quick ride with almost no queue. This way, you get all three attractions for the least amount of money.

Food Recommendation: I highly recommend Mr. Ping's Noodle Shop—the best value meal in the park. The beef noodles (around ¥68) were a decent portion and tasted better than expected.

There's an interactive walkway before entering the restaurant, decorated like a movie scene, which is quite fun to walk through. The queue is extremely long at lunchtime, so going before 11:00 AM is the safest bet.

photo of Creamy Beer

Creamy Beer – Tastes similar to cream soda, sweet and non-alcoholic. The slushie version is better than the cold version, with a denser foam on top. You can buy it from the cart near the bridge and the Three Broomsticks.

Three Broomsticks – Fish and chips, roast chicken, and Shepherd's Pie – a must-try for Harry Potter fans! The food is above average, but the atmosphere is great. The outdoor seating offers views of Hogwarts Castle, making for a very enjoyable dining experience. The queue is incredibly long during peak hours, so try to avoid lunchtime between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.

Hammond Restaurant – Their signature dish is the 200g burger; the combination of bacon, fried egg, and pineapple sauce is surprisingly delicious. You can request a window seat on the second floor with a lake view.

Chocolate Restaurant

Chocolate Restaurant — A steampunk-style restaurant; the building itself is worth seeing, with gears, chimneys, and an industrial fantasy interior. The menu includes brunch, sandwiches, and steaks, but the highlight is the desserts: their signature milkshakes are topped with whole cupcakes or cookies—super extravagant and photogenic. The signature milkshake is around ¥80, not cheap but unforgettable.

Cute Cow & Fish Sushi Burger Restaurant — A fusion of burgers and sushi, their signature "Sushi Burger" combines the two. Sounds strange, but it's really delicious. One of the most popular restaurants on City Boulevard, expect a queue during peak dinner hours (6–8 pm).

Bagan Shrimp Restaurant — A seafood restaurant themed after the movie Forrest Gump. Their signature dishes are the "Shrimp Paradise" platter and coconut fried shrimp, as well as burgers and fish and chips. The atmosphere is very family-friendly.

Jumbo Seafood — A seafood restaurant from Singapore, their signature dish is chili crab, mildly spicy and perfect for sharing among a group. They also offer steamed fish and shrimp dishes and Hong Kong-style dim sum. The most expensive option on CityWalk, but well worth it if you want to sit down and have a proper meal after a long day of fun.

Peet's Cafe — the best place for a quick caffeine boost. They have Americanos, cold brew, tea, croissants, and light snacks.

If you want to have dinner on CityWalk, avoid the time right after the park closes — everyone leaves at that time. Arriving a little earlier (around 5:30 PM) or a little later (after 8:30 PM, when the first wave of crowds has dispersed) will be much more comfortable.

Shopping Recommendations:

Universal Studios Flagship Store — a huge 750 square meter store with merchandise from all seven parks. You can pick up anything you forgot to buy in the park here.

Pop Mart Global Toy Factory Store — has Universal Studios co-branded blind boxes, only available here. This is a location-limited item and cannot be purchased online. Collectors will spend a lot of time here.

Coca-Cola Candy Store — Connected to the restaurant, offering boxed chocolates and candies as souvenirs.

Adidas MBC Store / Harmay / Swarovski Crystal Studio — Catering to different customer groups: fashion, beauty, and crystal.

Universal CityWalk Cinema — 10 screens, over 2,000 seats, featuring Beijing's largest IMAX laser screen. A great option for those staying at a hotel within the park to catch a movie in the evening.
